June 9, 2000 - Glasgow

Took the train from Edinburgh to Glasgow and did not have the best time in Glasgow. Our map was bad, there was construction going on everywhere, sidewalks were blocked, scaffolding restricted views (even of some addresses) and my suitcase kept spinning out of control! Arg!

We stayed at The Victorian House Hotel, which was more hotel than Mom wanted, but they had a decent sized bathtub so I was fine. Once rested we set off to find The Willow Tearoom to see some Mackintosh art. Also, fairly near the hotel is the Glasgow School of Art, designed by Mackintosh.

Andrew did not want to visit The Tenement House but he was outnumbered. Mom and I thought it fascinating! So well furnished that it felt like the Victorian owners had just stepped out.

Also went to the House for an Art Lover, designed by Mackintosh but not built until 1989.

Reason informed by emotion... Expressed in beauty...
Elevated by earnestness... Lightened by humour...
That is the ideal that should guide artists.
